SNL S50 E12: Who Got the Most (and Least) Screen Time?

Hot off his Oscar nomination for A Complete Unknown, Timothée Chalamet served as both the host and musical guest of Saturday Night Live this week, ultimately logging a screen time total of 25 minutes, which is two minutes more than when he hosted last season.

Scroll down to see how Chalamet stacked up against each of the show’s named performers, including surprise guests Lin-Manuel Miranda and Adam Sandler.

Note: Our screen time calculation method has been developed in partnership with longtime SNL statistician Mike Murray, host of the Saturday Night Network’s weekly By The Numbers podcast. We prioritize face time, meaning that any contiguous (off-screen but in-scene) moments and practically all partial body appearances do not count. Screen time in the opening credits, bumpers, goodnights and cut-for-time sketches are not included, nor do those portions factor into our assessment of the episode’s total running time.

Timothee Chalamet Saturday Night Live season 50 episode 12

Timothée Chalamet – 25:00 / 39.75%

Chalamet took part in nine of this week’s 13 segments, earning about 32% of his overall screen time during the two musical portions of the show. For comparison, Charli XCX’s musical performances took up just 23% of her time when she pulled double duty on November 16.

Mikey Day Saturday Night Live season 50 episode 12

Mikey Day – 14:27 / 22.97%

Until this week, Mikey Day had not topped an episode’s cast member screen time ranking since May 11, 2024. His and six other performers’ higher than usual screen times this week can largely be attributed to their participation in the cold open, during which they froze in place for five full minutes while James Austin Johnson delivered a monologue in character as Donald Trump.

Ashley Padilla Saturday Night Live season 50 episode 12

Ashley Padilla – 12:31 / 19.90%

In terms of screen time, this was the strongest week to date for new featured player Ashley Padilla, who more than doubled her previous single-episode record of 5:41 (November 9). Just one week after slipping into last place on this season’s cumulative screen time list, she is now at least three minutes ahead of fellow newcomers Emil Wakim and Jane Wickline.

Andrew Dismukes Saturday Night Live season 50 episode 12

Andrew Dismukes – 11:51 / 18.84%

Along with Heidi Gardner and Ego Nwodim, Andrew Dismukes is one of three cast members who crossed the one-hour Season 50 screen time threshold this week. In addition to appearing as Benjamin Franklin in the cold open, he made his second “Weekend Update” visit of the season, this time with a puppet version of his dad in tow.

Michael Longfellow Saturday Night Live season 50 episode 12

Michael Longfellow – 10:34 / 16.80%

After setting a personal single-episode screen time record of 7:13 on November 2, Michael Longfellow raised that bar significantly higher this week. His and Emil Wakim’s nearly six-minute turns in “Founding Fathers Cold Open” now stand as the longest Season 50 sketch performances by current cast members outside of “Weekend Update.”

Sarah Sherman Saturday Night Live season 50 episode 12

Sarah Sherman – 10:17 / 16.35%

Although she fell behind four of her castmates this week, Sarah Sherman now stands as the performer with the second highest amount of cumulative Season 50 screen time. Last week, she ranked third on that list behind Bowen Yang and Colin Jost, the former of whom now leads her by just 39 seconds.

Heidi Gardner Saturday Night Live season 50 episode 12

Heidi Gardner – 8:51 / 14.07%

Alongside Day, Gardner is one of only two performers who took part in all three of this episode’s pretaped sketches, including the animated short “God” in which she voiced an angel. She was also seen in four live sketches, with her longest performances of the week being in “Bungee” and “New Barista Training.”

James Austin Johnson Saturday Night Live season 50 episode 12

James Austin Johnson – 8:03 / 12.80%

Johnson’s first post-inauguration performance as Trump was by far the largest of his four appearances on January 25. The episode currently ranks as his second strongest of the season in terms of screen time, after the one that aired on October 12.

Emil Wakim Saturday Night Live season 50 episode 12

Emil Wakim – 6:26 / 10.23%

Wakim made up for his complete absence from last week’s show by setting a new personal best this week. Over 91% of his screen time was spent playing Robert Livingston in the cold open.

Lin-Manuel Miranda Saturday Night Live season 50 episode 12

Lin-Manuel Miranda – 5:52 / 9.33%

Lin-Manuel Miranda’s performance as Alexander Hamilton in “Founding Fathers Cold Open” marked his first SNL appearance since playing presidential candidate Julian Castro in a Season 45 episode. Including his sole hosting gig in 2016, he has now appeared in a total of four SNL episodes.

Ego Nwodim Saturday Night Live season 50 episode 12

Ego Nwodim – 5:46 / 9.17%

Nwodim has once again moved from second to third place in this season’s female cast member screen time ranking, with at least two and a half minutes currently separating her from Sherman and Gardner. About 44% of her time this week was spent making her third “Weekend Update” appearance of the season, this time as concerned businesswoman Giselle.

Bowen Yang Saturday Night Live season 50 episode 12

Bowen Yang – 5:40 / 9.01%

Apart from the “Weekend Update” anchors, Yang was the last cast member to make an appearance in this week’s episode. He was seen in all of the night’s final three live sketches, including for almost three minutes in “AI Software.”

Chloe Fineman Saturday Night Live season 50 episode 12

Chloe Fineman – 5:17 / 8.40%

Chloe Fineman, who impersonated Chalamet in two earlier Season 50 episodes, appeared with the actor in four segments, including his monologue. She was also seen in two sketches in which he did not take part: “Founding Fathers Cold Open” and “Oedipal Arrangements.”

Colin Jost Saturday Night Live season 50 episode 12

Colin Jost – 4:48 / 7.63%

At 36.92%, Jost’s proportional screen time in the latest “Weekend Update” segment was his lowest of the season so far by nearly six points. However, when it comes to actual screen time, December 7 remains his lowest point of the season by 30 seconds.

Kenan Thompson Saturday Night Live season 50 episode 12

Kenan Thompson – 4:12 / 6.68%

After making his second monologue appearance of the season, Kenan Thompson racked up over three minutes of screen time across four of this week’s sketches. He also introduced Chalamet’s second musical performance, following Yang (November 16) as the second current cast member to fulfill that duty this season.

Michael Che Saturday Night Live season 50 episode 12

Michael Che – 3:59 / 6.33%

While Jost’s “Weekend Update” segment percentage was unusually low this week, Michael Che’s (30.64%) was on par with his season average so far. Their proximity in this episode is due to the fact that they each led a single guest interview, with Che welcoming Nwodim to his side of the desk for the first time in three months.

Marcello Hernandez Saturday Night Live season 50 episode 12

Marcello Hernandez – 3:26 / 5.46%

Marcello Hernandez appeared in four of this week’s sketches, each for 100 seconds or less. Despite landing under four minutes more often than not since September 28, his Season 50 screen time is significantly higher than the amount he had amassed by this time last season.

James Blake Saturday Night Live season 50 episode 12

James Blake – 2:36 / 4.13%

English songwriter James Blake provided backing vocals and keyboard accompaniment during both of Chalamet’s musical performances. Although this was his SNL debut, he has appeared on several other late night programs over the last dozen years, including Late Show with David Letterman and Jimmy Kimmel Live.

Devon Walker Saturday Night Live season 50 episode 12

Devon Walker – 1:07 / 1.78%

This was the eighth Season 50 episode in which Devon Walker appeared for less than two minutes. He has now returned to his former position at the very bottom of the season’s screen time ranking, with all three current featured players outpacing him by at least 36 seconds.

Jane Wickline Saturday Night Live season 50 episode 12

Jane Wickline – 0:37 / 0.98%

Wickline is now the last of this season’s three new hires yet to accumulate 30 minutes of screen time. Until this week, the October 19 episode was the only one in which each of her castmates had clocked in ahead of her.

Adam Sandler Saturday Night Live season 50 episode 12

Adam Sandler – 0:08 / 0.21%

Sandler (Chalamet’s costar from the 2014 film Men, Women & Children) briefly showed up to introduce this week’s first music segment. Since he also appeared in a December 14 sketch, he follows Maya Rudolph, Andy Samberg and Dana Carvey as the fourth former SNL cast member to make multiple cameos this season.
