Jimmy Kimmel Live! hit the late-night host trifecta Tuesday night. Not only was Stephen Colbert Kimmel’s guest, but Seth Meyers dropped in on a monologue that also featured his brother Josh—Kimmel’s resident Gavin Newsom impersonator.
In character as California’s governor, Josh cracked jokes about New York’s crowded late-night scene, riffing on Fallon, Oliver, Stewart, and Colbert before unloading on his brother: “That little creep Seth Meyers… dude dresses like a [bleep] substitute Montessori teacher.”
Kimmel tried to push back—“I love Seth”—but Josh-as-Newsom barreled ahead, tossing in snaps about Seth. That’s when Seth himself appeared to huge cheers, breaking the bit: “Josh, what are you doing? You asked me to pick you up tonight because you said you were too scared to ride the subway alone.”
Josh, still deep in character, refused to drop the act. When Seth identified him as his brother, Josh as Newsom protested: “Whoa, bro. We’re bros, but not—I get that all the time, probably ‘cause we’re both so hot.”
Kimmel interrupted to invite Seth to dinner—“I’m in town all week.” That’s when Seth feigned ignorance, greeting him with: “Oh hey, Jimmy. I thought your whole show was, you know—”
Kimmel quickly corrected him: “No, we’re back on the air now… for now.” Seth deadpanned back, “I was rooting for it [to return]. Cool, man.Good for you.”
The sketch wrapped with Seth ushering his reluctant brother offstage, calming his subway fears with, “Breakdancers can’t hurt you. I told you this.”
