Two Saturday Night Live stars have taken one of their signature sketches to the bank.
Former cast members Molly Shannon and Ana Gasteyer have reprised their characters from recurring late-‘90s sketch “The Delicious Dish” for a new set of ads for Capital One.
Fictional NPR hosts Margaret Jo McCollen (Gasteyer) and Teri Rialto (Shannon) returned in two commercials that debuted during SNL’s primetime Thanksgiving special Wednesday night. In one spot, Shannon and Gasteyer’s characters interview Capital One spokesperson Samuel L. Jackson, who touts the bank’s Savor credit card and, of course, his own double-entendre dish: his “sweet buttery buns.”
In another ad, the duo appear with Jeremy Brandt—aka “Capital One Bank Guy”—who, unfortunately, does not come equipped with a euphemistic pun.

The “Delicious Dish” sketches aired on Saturday Night Live 14 times between 1996-2002. The duo appeared one last time in 2010, when Shannon and Gasteyer returned to the show to do the sketch with host Betty White. But it was the ninth installment of the sketch that’s best remembered—that’s the time when host Alec Baldwin hawked his “Schweddy Balls” in December 1998.
In late September, Capital One was announced as one of SNL’s anchor sponsors for the show’s milestone 50th season, joining brands like T-Mobile, CeraVe, Volkswagen of America, Maybelline NY, and Allstate. (Current SNL writers & part-time performers Please Don’t Destroy just debuted their own ad for Allstate during a new episode of SNL two weeks ago.)
