Still no word yet on exactly when they’ll meet, but Donald Trump is explaining why he’s agreed to sit down with Bill Maher.
“I got a call from a very good guy, and friend of mine, Kid Rock, asking me whether or not it would be possible for me to meet, in the White House, with Bill Maher,” Trump said in a Truth Social post Sunday, describing the Real Time with Bill Maher host as “a man who has been unjustifiably critical of anything, or anyone, TRUMP.”
Last week, Maher offered a similar assessment of his anti-Trump disposition when he first discussed his plan to meet with the President. “[Trump]’s gonna talk to me. Who’s been meaner than me?” Maher said on his Club Random podcast. “I asked my staff once… [to] just write down all the things he said [about me] in tweets and at rallies. It’s five pages long.”
“I really didn’t like the idea much, and don’t like it much now, but thought it would be interesting,” Trump said, adding that he expects Maher will publicly criticize him regardless of how the meeting goes.
“The problem is, no matter how much he likes your Favorite President, ME, he will publicly proclaim what a terrible guy I am, etc.,” Trump wrote, equating it to the way that his Address to the Joint Session of Congress was received by Democrats.
“Who knows, though, maybe I’ll be proven wrong?” Trump continued of the Maher meeting. “In any event, I’m doing a favor for a friend.”
In the same breath, Trump also wrote that he “look[s] forward” to the meeting, revealing that UFC CEO Dana White may also attend.
“It might be fun or, it might not, but you will be the first to know!” he told his Truth Social followers.
