Donald Trump has found a new comedy foe in former Daily Show host Trevor Noah.
The president lashed out at Noah early Monday morning after the comedian, as host of CBS’ Sunday-night Grammy Awards telecast, delivered a joke that referenced Trump, Bill Clinton, and Jeffrey Epstein. In a lengthy post on Truth Social, Trump called the Grammys “virtually unwatchable,” denounced Noah as “a total loser,” and threatened legal action over what he described as a “false and defamatory statement.”
The remark in question came late in the telecast, after Billie Eilish won Song of the Year. “That is a Grammy that every artist wants—almost as much as Trump wants Greenland,” Noah said, before adding that, with Epstein’s private island “gone,” Trump would need “a new one to hang out with Bill Clinton.”
Trump seized on the line, insisting he had never visited Epstein’s island and had never previously been accused of doing so. “WRONG!!!” wrote Trump, adding that he would be “sending my lawyers to sue this poor, pathetic, talentless, dope of an M.C., and suing him for plenty$.”
The Truth Social post also included a familiar broadside, with Trump comparing Grammys host Noah unfavorably to “Jimmy Kimmel at the Low Ratings Academy Awards.” Kimmel, of course, has been one of Trump’s most frequent late-night antagonists, and a recurring target of the former president’s social media attacks.
Trump further pointed to his recent legal history with the media, telling Noah to “ask CBS” how things worked out—an apparent reference to Trump’s lawsuit against 60 Minutes, which the network settled with Trump last summer. In his Truth Social post, Trump also invoked George Stephanopoulos, using a derisive nickname while alluding to a similar settlement with ABC.
Representatives for Noah and the Recording Academy have yet to publicly respond.
Trump’s threat adds Noah to a long list of late-night hosts past and present who have found themselves on the receiving end of presidential social tirades in recent months, including Kimmel, Stephen Colbert, Seth Meyers, and David Letterman.
Noah hosted the The Daily Show from September 2015 to December 2022.
What a cowardly, thin skinned son of a bitch, my god.
Why anyone would think Drumpf is some sort of alpha, after this latest childish lawsuit of his, that won’t go anywhere, is something scientists and researchers will be studying for years!
Gawd I wish he’d get pissed off at a supreme court justice or three. These are the assholes who granted him a stay in being sued as president. Something about being a distraction from his kingly activities…
So if he’s too ‘ busy’ to be sued, why is he allowed to sue in personal squabbles?
This is a gross imbalance in power and justice- just how he wants it.
The minute he is out of office, he will be buried in lawsuits, which he can leisurely fight from the lovely tropical resort of Guantanamo.
Gee, those Epstein files are really THAT bad that he has to find a new targe-I mean distraction even when he and the rest of his administration are crumbling under pressure after last month~
Don’t be surprised that if this escalates further, Trevor will end up being a future guest on Kimmel or Colbert, which I would be all in for 🤭
