Triumph the Insult Comic Dog Has a New Special: Let’s Make a Poop—Chicago Edition

If you’ve ever wanted to see Triumph the Insult Comic Dog take a (figurative) poop on Rod Blagojevich, now’s your chance.

Robert Smigel’s long-running puppet character just dropped a new special: a live recording of the Let’s Make A Poop game/panel show he hosted in Chicago back in June.

The special, released on Team Coco’s YouTube channel, comes on the heels of the show’s San Francisco edition being released in March. (That special racked up 123,000 views on Triumph’s YouTube channel, and another 133,000 since being reposted on the Team Coco account in May.)

The live show’s format brings back Triumph’s 2020 quiz show podcast Let’s Make a Poop, with Triumph roasting a panel of celebs and leading them through a game of “Poopardy!”.

In this latest edition, Triumph welcomed—and roasted—former Cubs player Ryan Dempster, Freaks and Geeks actor Samm Levine, and WGN meteorologist Paul Konrad, who served as announcer. But he devoted most of his insult attention to the guest most maligned by the crowd: former Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich, who was sentenced to eight years in prison for attempting to sell then-president Barack Obama’s U.S. Senate seat.

“Hold on to your seats before he tries to sell them,” Konrad announced to introduce the disgraced politician. Smigel-as-Triumph even needed to quell the crowd’s boos, but the hound himself didn’t go light on Blago, focusing on the self-described Trumpocrat’s support of former president Donald Trump.

“I think [Trump] likes you because you’ve never shown any remorse or forehead,” Triumph told Blagojevich.

The show also features a special appearance by an old friend of Triumph’s: Poochie Jackson, an employee at The Wieners Circle, whom Triumph sparred with during his infamous visit to the hot dog stand on Conan in 2012.

Triumph, the brainchild of Smigel, began his life on Late Night with Conan O’Brien, on which Smigel was head writer.

While Triumph has been active since his days on Late Night—appearing on shows like Space Ghost Coast to Coast, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and his own sitcom The Jack and Triumph Show—the hound has been particularly active in recent months. In addition to releasing his first Let’s Make A Poop special, Triumph has covered the Trump trial for his YouTube channel, and made his first late-night appearance in years on The Daily Show in June.
