Stephen Colbert to Host Amber Ruffin on The Late Show Tuesday

Amber Ruffin may have been missed at this past weekend’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner, but she’ll be gracing the airwaves of CBS this week.

Ruffin, who made headlines when she was dropped as this year’s WHCD featured entertainer, will guest on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert tomorrow, April 29.

The White House Correspondents’ Association’s decision to disinvite Ruffin was, according to them, made “to ensure the focus is not on the politics of division but entirely on awarding our colleagues.” The cancellation came on the heels of Ruffin making it clear that she no longer planned to “give it to both sides,” as she’d originally planned when she signed on for the job before Donald Trump was sworn in for his second term in January.

Ruffin is currently a team captain on CNN’s comedy panel show Have I Got News For You, which just last week was confirmed to be returning for a third season this fall.

The comedian has also been a writer for Late Night with Seth Meyers since 2014, and hosted Peacock’s The Amber Ruffin Show from 2020-2022. She continues to make on-air appearances on Late Night in segments like “Amber Says What” and “Jokes Seth Can’t Tell.”

The appearance will mark Ruffin’s Late Show debut, and also her first formal late-night interview since her performance at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner was cancelled. (Ruffin appeared in a scripted bit about the cancellation on Late Night days after it was confirmed. She also addressed the flap on Have I Got News For You a week later.)

Colbert’s guest lineup for Tuesday will also include an installment of The Colbert Questionnaire with Will Ferrell and a performance from Jonathan Groff and the company of Broadway’s Just In Time.

I know comedy is subjective but I am of the opinion that Amber Ruffin is not the least bit funny. I avoid her at all costs.

  2. Judy Panico says:

I want “Have I Got New for you” to be on weekly all year. It is so important to have some levity( and talented people)
give us news with humor in these trying times.
