Sarah Sherman’s first comedy special is heading to HBO.
The Saturday Night Live star’s debut hour, Sarah Squirm: Live + In The Flesh, will premiere on HBO and HBO Max this December. An exact date has not yet been announced. The special is being executive produced by Sherman’s SNL boss Lorne Michaels through Broadway Video, alongside Josh Safdie’s Central Pictures, Rotten Science, and Sherman collaborator Jack Bensinger.
As we’ve reported, Sherman, who often performs under her “Sarah Squirm” moniker, taped the special earlier this month at The Bell House in Brooklyn. She has been touring the show over the last two years.
HBO describes the hour as a mix of “bodily fluids, open-wound confessionals, and jokes that will leave skid marks on your soul.” Nina Rosenstein, HBO’s EVP of Late Night & Specials, called the special “like plugging directly into a live wire.”
Sherman added her own warning in a statement to Variety: “Word to the wise. Don’t watch while eating.”
The release continues a wave of SNL cast members bringing stand-up projects to streaming platforms. Marcello Hernández recently taped his debut Netflix special, Devon Walker’s half-hour landed on Hulu, James Austin Johnson has a project in the works, and Please Don’t Destroy self-released a live special on YouTube.
Sherman is back in Studio 8H this week for her fifth season on SNL, as the show kicks off its 51st season with host Bad Bunny and musical guest Doja Cat this Saturday, Oct. 4.
