With Saturday Night Live’s season premiere only days away, the show has released its first “concert tee” for Season 50.
Continuing a tradition that began in Season 45, the NBC Store will release a limited-edition T-shirt commemorating each individual episode this season. While the design of each episode’s shirt remains the same, the date, host name, and musical guest are updated for each new week.
In past years, the shirt’s designs have taken cues from the bumpers SNL airs during an episode announcing upcoming hosts and musical guests, or the index cards the show uses on social media to evoke Lorne Michaels’ bulletin board.
For its landmark 50th season, SNL seems to be reaching back even deeper into the history of NBC for inspiration, modeling the artwork after the tickets audience members are given when attending tapings. (While it resembles a Saturday Night Live ticket, NBC Studios has used that design since decades before the show hit the airwaves.)
The T’s front features the “SNL50” logo the show introduced to celebrate its golden anniversary. Earlier this month, NBC dropped the first batch of SNL merch featuring the design.
The limited-edition Show 1 concert tee—touting host Jean Smart and musical guest Jelly Roll—is available now for $40 at the NBC Store. While merch for episodes 2 through 5 have not yet been released, we do know what they’ll say: SNL recently announced its next several hosts and musical guests.
As the shirt suggests, SNL returns this Saturday, September 28.
