Seth Meyers is headed to HBO… for an hour.
HBO has announced that it will be premiering Meyers’ new comedy special this fall, and making it available to stream on Max.
Meyers taped the special over two performances last month at Chicago’s Vic Theatre. It’s a homecoming of sorts for the Late Night host, who was born in Evanston, Illinois, and later returned there to attend Northwestern University. Plans for the special were revealed back in March when tickets went on sale.
While it’s Meyers’ first release for HBO, it’s his second special overall. In 2019, he premiered his debut hour Lobby Baby on Netflix. In that performance, his material covered his marriage, his wedding, and the chaotic birth of his son.
It’s unclear what topics he’ll be tackling in the new show, but it sounds like it’ll be more family material.
“Critics say it’s the special my kids will be talking about in therapy 20 years from now,” Meyers said in a press release.
Meyers has been touring his material in his downtime from Late Night, and has a monthly residency at New York City’s Beacon Theatre with fellow late-night host John Oliver, which they recently extended through December.
“As longtime fans, we’re so happy to partner with Seth on his first HBO special,” the network said. “He’s such a charismatic storyteller and we’ve always loved the way he reaches people on such a personal level. This special is endlessly relatable and so much fun to watch.”
The special’s title remains TBA, as does a specific release date.
