Sarah Sherman‘s latest acting role is as unexpected as ever. The Saturday Night Live cast member has a quick voice cameo in the season premiere of Severance.
The return of the Ben Stiller-directed Apple TV+ series had been hotly anticipated following a nearly three-year wait since the end of its first season. In the first episode of Season 2 (titled “Hello, Ms. Cobel”), Sherman plays an anthropomorphic character that feels like it would be right at home in one of Dan Bulla’s SNL Midnight Matinee shorts.
The comedian voices a claymation water tower in a corporate orientation video of sorts for Lumon, which serves to explain the Macrodat Uprising to Mark (Adam Scott) following the events of the previous season. “They made quite a splash!” Sherman exclaims in her sole line.
The cameo is easy to miss—especially since it’s overshadowed by another surprise casting. The video is narrated by a claymation version of the Lumon building, voiced by none other than Keanu Reeves.
This isn’t the first time Sherman has surprised fans with an unusual acting role outside of SNL. In September, she appeared in a two-episode arc as dialect coach Robin Finch on the soap opera General Hospital.
It remains to be seen if Sherman recurs in Severance, but in the meantime, you can catch her on the mid-season return of SNL tomorrow night alongside host Dave Chappelle and musical guest GloRilla.
