Sarah Sherman (aka Sarah Squirm) is trading stand-up for soap opera shenanigans. The Saturday Night Live cast member made a buzzy entrance on General Hospital today as Lois Cerullo’s (Rena Sofer) new etiquette teacher.
As we’ve previously reported, Sherman is guest starring as Ms. Robin Finch on the ABC soap for a two-episode arc this week. Her first episode, which aired Thursday, sees the character already off to a rocky start with the rest of the Port Charles group.
After sharply criticizing Olivia (Lisa LoCicero) for the way she pronounces “croissant,” Ms. Finch introduces herself as a “dialect theorist and tutor to the stars,” claiming that she once coached Meryl Streep’s daughters. When Lois interjects that she never even hired a tutor, Tracy (Jane Elliot) confesses that she hired Ms. Finch.
“Lois is my employee,” Tracy begins to explain herself as the others protest. “Our sales are directly linked to her presentation. … I believe that our numbers will improve if Lois’ rough edges are smoothed out.” She also insists that Lois okay’ed the whole arrangement from the start.
Sherman—who’s apparently a General Hospital superfan—told People magazine that she had “the time of my life” guesting on the soap. “I was so nervous about flubbing my lines, because I was surrounded by pros who memorize like a billion pages of dialogue a day,” she said. “Also I met ‘Sonny Corinthos’ [Maurice Benard] so I can die happy!”
Sherman first joined SNL as a featured player in October 2021 during Season 47; she was promoted to repertory status in October 2023. Known for her surreal and body horror comedy, she’s garnered praise for her unconventional sketches like “Meatballs” (which she performed with Chris Redd).
Sherman is set to make one more appearance as Ms. Finch on General Hospital Friday, September 5. She is also expected to return to SNL for its 50th season, which kicks off on September 28 on NBC.
