Reggie Dinkins Scores Rare Post-SNL Showcase

Immediately following the next round of Saturday Night Live Goodbyes, NBC wants you to say hello to Reggie Dinkins.

LateNighter has learned that the first episode of Tracy Morgan’s new sitcom, The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins, will get a special encore showing after the February 28 SNL, airing at 1 a.m. ET.

Though it’s not a first for NBC to slot network programming after SNL—they followed this playbook as recently as November with Stumble (which features former SNLer Taran Killam), and also did so in 2023 with Peacock’s Pete Davidson-led Bupkis—it remains a rarely called audible.

Also, a LateNighter fun fact: this won’t be the first time Morgan has appeared on NBC at that wee hour. He performed on Showtime at the Apollo! back in 1993, years before his SNL run began.

Morgan headlines Reggie Dinkins as a disgraced former football star on a mission to rehabilitate his image with the help of an award-winning filmmaker (Daniel Radcliffe). The cast also includes Erika Alexander (Last Man Standing), Bobby Moynihan (SNLNCIS: Origins), Precious Way (Days of Our Lives), and Jalyn Hall (All American), while Season 1 guest stars include The Daily Show‘s Michael Kosta (playing the self-important host of a SportsCenter-style program).

Reggie Dinkins emerged as this TV season’s most-watched comedy (in Live+Same Day numbers) when its January 18 premiere retained 5.8 million viewers (along with a robust 1.4 demo rating) leading out of an NFL playoff game between the Rams and Bears.

SNL meanwhile is this season’s top-rated comedy across all day parts, and one of the most-watched.

Reggie Dinkins hails from writers/co-showrunners Robert Carlock and Sam Means, with Morgan,Tina Fey, Eric Gurian, and David Miner also serving as executive producers.

Ahead of its post-SNL pilot rerun, The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins will air its second episode Monday, February 23 at 8:30 pm ET, in its regularly scheduled time slot. Episode 3 airs Monday, March 2.

SNL resumes its season February 28 with first-time host Connor Storrie (Heated Rivalry) and musical guest Mumford & Sons.

I’ll pass on this one. Tracy Morgan is a one-note comedian.
