It was another split decision at 11:35 p.m., as CBS and ABC each claimed a key piece of the late-night crown for the week of Nov. 9. The Late Show finished No. 1 in total viewers, while Jimmy Kimmel Live! led the demo, buoyed by a strong Monday Night Football lead-in on Monday and a highly rated tribute episode honoring bandleader Cleto Escobedo III on Tuesday.
According to Nielsen Live+3 data, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert averaged 2.15 million total viewers across three originals and two repeats, down 11 percent from the previous week. The show also slipped in adults 18–49, posting 172,000 viewers in the demo (–17 percent).
Jimmy Kimmel Live!, which aired two new episodes and three repeats following Escobedo’s passing on Tuesday, nevertheless topped the 18–49 race at 11:35 p.m. with a nightly average of 223,000 viewers (+2 percent). The ABC show also grew 3 percent in total viewers, averaging 1.80 million.
With its competition airing repeats on Thursday (and on Wednesday in Kimmel’s case), NBC’s Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon climbed to 1.21 million total viewers (+11 percent) and 141,000 adults 18–49 (+4 percent) across four originals and one repeat.
ABC News: Nightline took the top prize at 12:37 a.m., despite dipping slightly to 932,000 viewers (–1 percent) and 114,000 in the demo (–11 percent). Late Night with Seth Meyers averaged 832,000 total viewers (–3 percent) and 100,000 adults 18–49 (–17 percent).
The Daily Show was mostly steady week-to-week, drawing 774,000 total viewers and 182,000 adults 18–49, down 3 percent in both metrics.
On cable, Fox News’ Gutfeld! brought in 2.78 million viewers (–2 percent) and 189,000 adults 18–49 (–12 percent). Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live delivered one of its biggest gains of the fall, jumping to 317,000 viewers (+32 percent) and 84,000 adults 18–49 (+36 percent) with five originals. Both shows air in prime time.
