A heated rivalry is brewing at this year’s Webby Awards.
At the 30th annual Webbys—which celebrate achievements across podcasts, AI, websites, creators, video/film, social media, games, and apps/software—CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert is nominated twice. And in both categories, it’s facing off against Heated Rivalry, the Canadian gay hockey drama.
In General Social (Television & Film), Late Show‘s social media team is up against Heated Rivalry as well as Jimmy Kimmel Live!, South Park and A Minecraft Movie, while in the Social Video Short Form (Television & Film) race, the two shows will vie against JKL, IT: Welcome to Derry and The Jennifer Hudson Show.
On Monday night’s Late Show, Colbert tipped his hat to his twice-nominated social media team, and clocked the Heated Rivalry battle being fought on two fronts.
“It’s very exciting…. I’m told it’s ‘neck and neck,’ which my staff insists is not code for anything,” Colbert said. But, “I’m pretty sure it is,” he added.
In the name of besting the steamy hockey drama, Colbert said, “I even asked my staff if it would help if I showed my naked butt more, and they told me” that if he did so, “they would all, quote, ‘lose our legal right to have the internet.'”
Instead, it’s up to the public to decide. And to that end, Colbert urged Late Show fans to go cast their votes on the Webby Awards website, “which, suspiciously, has never won a Webby.”
