Note: LateNighter generally posts late night weekly live-plus-three ratings on a three (business) day delay, which is how they are released by Nielsen.
Late-night ratings for the week of July 29, 2024 were skewed due to NBC preempting its shows for Paris Olympics coverage, and ABC and CBS airing exclusively repeats of their respective programs.
Still, someone had to win the Nielsen weekly ratings race, of course. CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert averaged the most total viewers, while Comedy Central’s The Daily Show averaged the most P18-49 viewers of any show airing in late night.
For the week of July 29, The Late Show averaged 1,147,000 total viewers with 142,000 P18-49 viewers, per Nielsen live-plus-three data. That’s -49% and -42%, respectively, from the week before (week of July 22). It’s worth remembering that The Late Show‘s week of July 29 Nielsen ratings averages are based exclusively off of repeats, whereas the previous week’s Late Show ratings are based off of data from four first-run episodes (Mon-Thurs), and a Friday repeat.
ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! averaged 930,000 total viewers with 125,000 P18-49 for the week of July 29, per Nielsen live-plus-three data. That’s -21% and -25%, respectively, from the week before. Similar to The Late Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live! week of July 29 Nielsen ratings averages are based exclusively off of repeat episodes, whereas the show’s ratings from the previous week are based off of data from four first-run episodes (Mon-Thurs), and a Friday repeat.
Following Colbert, CBS’ After Midnight averaged 440,000 total viewers with 75,000 P18-49 this past week, per Nielsen live-plus-three data. That’s -28% in total viewers and -36% in P18-49 from the week prior. After Midnight‘s week of July 29 Nielsen averages are based exclusively off of repeat episodes, whereas the show’s ratings averages from the week before are based off of Nielsen data from four first-run episodes (Mon-Thurs) and a Friday rebroadcast.
ABC’s Nightline averaged 636,000 total viewers with 84,000 P18-49 viewers, per Nielsen live-plus-three data. That’s -8% and -7%, respectively, from the week prior. Nightline‘s week of July 29 averages are based on Nielsen data from five first-run episodes (Mon-Fri).
The Daily Show averaged 921,000 total viewers with 161,000 P18-49 for the week of July 29, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. Compared with the most recent week of Daily Show episodes (July 15-17), the program shed -1% in total viewers but gained +8% in P18-49 viewers — with that week-to-week gain driven by a highly-rated Monday episode featuring Pete Buttigieg.
