CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert took first place in the late night ratings race on Wednesday — winning the 11:35 p.m. timeslot both in total viewers and the key P18-49 demographic for the second consecutive night.
The Late Show ‘s Wednesday, October 16 episode featured guests Stanley Tucci, and Harvey Guillén, and averaged 1,862,000 total viewers with 226,000 P18-49 at 11:35 p.m., per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. Despite winning both measurements, the episode shed -13% in total viewers and -9% among P18-49 from the night before, but gained +42% and +36%, respectively, from the previous Wednesday’s telecast (a repeat).
ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! took second place in the 11:35 p.m. slot on Wednesday, finishing ahead of its NBC competition both in total viewers and among P18-49. Featuring guests Mila Kunis, and Joan Vassos, and musical guest Royel Otis, JKL averaged 1,712,000 total viewers with 199,000 P18-49. That’s down -10% in total viewers but up +4% among P18-49 from the night before, and down -6% and -19%, respectively, from the previous Wednesday’s episode.
The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon is in the midst of a dark week, and NBC re-aired its Sept. 16, 2024 episode this past Wednesday at 11:35 p.m. Featuring guests Justin Timberlake, Meghann Fahy, and musical guest Yseult, the repeat telecast averaged 1,218,000 total viewers with 190,000 P18-49. That’s up +12% in total viewers but down -17% in P18-49 from the previous night’s repeat telecast, and -17% and -26%, respectively, from the previous Wednesday’s Tonight Show (a new episode).
Following Fallon was a repeat of Late Night with Seth Meyers‘ Sept. 12, 2024 episode. Featuring guests Kathryn Hahn and Kevin Smith, the 12:35 a.m. telecast averaged 758,000 total viewers with 161,000 P18-49. That’s a +12% gain in total viewers and a +19% gain among P18-49 from the previous night’s repeat episode, but -23% and -14%, respectively, from the week-ago Late Night (a new episode).
Following Colbert was a new episode of After Midnight on CBS. Featuring guests Andy Richter, Thomas Lennon, and Aparna Nancherla, the Taylor Tomlinson-led program averaged 609,000 total viewers with 123,000 P18-49 at 12:35 a.m. That’s down -12% in total viewers but up +2% in P18-49 from the previous night’s episode, +16% and +29%, respectively, from the week-ago telecast (a repeat).
Following Kimmel, the Wednesday, Oct. 16 edition of Nightline averaged 792,000 total viewers with 114,000 P18-49 at 12:35 a.m. That’s down -10% in total viewers but up +44% among P18-49 from the night before, -23% and +9%, respectively, from the previous Wednesday’s episode.
Desi Lydic is serving as The Daily Show guest host this week, and Wednesday’s episode averaged 444,000 total viewers with 96,000 P18-49, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s down -29% in total viewers and -40% in P18-49 viewers from the previous night’s episode, and -6% but +28%, respectively, from the previous Wednesday’s episode (hosted by Jordan Klepper). Actor Jason Segel was Lydic’s guest on the Wednesday’s Daily Show.
