ABC’s primetime coverage of The Stanley Cup Finals gave ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! a strong lead-in but a delayed start-time, leading to another split decision in the late-night ratings race Wednesday night, with a new Martin Short-hosted Kimmel episode averaging the largest total live-plus-same-day audience, while a rebroadcast of CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert delivered the most P18-49 viewers.
Per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data for Wednesday, June 26, Jimmy Kimmel Live! (which started at 11:57 p.m.) averaged 1,315,000 total viewers with 181,000 P18-49. That’s -17% and -9%, respectively, from the previous day’s rebroadcast (Tuesday, June 25). Compared to the week-ago episode (June 19), the June 26 Kimmel dropped by -11% in total viewers, but gained +71% in P18-49. Martin Short continued his stint as Jimmy Kimmel Live! guest-host on Wednesday, and welcomed his Only Murders in the Building co-star Selena Gomez to the program. Beck performed.
CBS presented a rebroadcast of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’s June 6, 2024 episode this past Wednesday, and the telecast averaged the most P18-49 live-plus-same-day viewers in the timeslot with 184,000. That’s -18% from the previous day’s rebroadcast, and -6% from the week-ago episode (a new one). The Wednesday telecast averaged 1,281,000 total live-plus-same-day viewers in the timeslot. That’s -11% from the previous day’s rebroadcast, and -26% from the week-ago episode (new).
NBC presented a rebroadcast The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon‘s June 18 episode on Wednesday at 11:35 p.m., and the telecast averaged 1,263,000 total viewers with 175,000 P18-49 viewers, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s -2% and -6%, respectively, from the previous day’s rebroadcast; +18% and +14%, respectively, from the week-ago episode (a new one).
Following Fallon, NBC presented a rebroadcast of Late Night with Seth Meyers‘ June 3 episode, and the telecast averaged 714,000 total viewers with 131,000 P18-49, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s -4% and +22%, respectively, from the previous day’s rebroadcast; +5% and +7%, respectively, from the week-ago episode (new).
Following The Late Show, CBS presented a rebroadcast of After Midnight‘s May 7 episode. The telecast averaged 553,000 total viewers but just 85,000 P18-49 viewers, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s -3% and -23%, respectively, from the previous day’s rebroadcast; -16% and -38%, respectively, from the week-ago episode (new).
ABC did not submit Nielsen data for the Wednesday, June 26, 2024 edition of Nightline.
Lastly, Comedy Central’s The Daily Show was hosted by Michael Kosta on Wednesday, June 26, and per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data, the episode averaged 459,000 total viewers with 138,000 P18-49. That’s -5% in total viewers, but +41% in P18-49 from the day before. ProPublica reporter Sharon Lerner joined Kosta on the Wednesday, June 26. The Daily Show did not air on Wednesday, June 19.
