Late night’s quiet week continued on Wednesday, as NBC once again preempted The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and Late Night with Seth Meyers for Paris Summer Olympics coverage, while ABC and CBS re-aired old episodes of their respective talk shows.
CBS aired The Late Show with Stephen Colbert‘s June 13, 2024 episode this past Wednesday, and the 11:35 p.m. telecast averaged 1,068,000 total viewers with 120,000 P18-49, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. The shed -8% in total viewers and -20% in P18-49 viewers from the day before (another rebroadcast); -42% and -33%, respectively, from the previous Wednesday episode (a new one).
At the same time, ABC re-aired Jimmy Kimmel Live‘s July 8, 2024 episode, and it averaged 926,000 total viewers with 119,000 P18-49. That’s +3% and +27%, respectively, from the day before (another rebroadcast); but -27% and -41%, respectively, from the prior Wednesday (the highly-rated Ryan Reynolds-Hugh Jackman-led episode).
Following The Late Show, CBS re-aired the May 20, 2024 episode of After Midnight, and the 12:35 a.m. telecast averaged 447,000 total viewers with only 57,000 P18-49, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s +1% and -15%, respectively, from the day before (also a rebroadcast); -18% and -34%, respectively, from the previous Wednesday (a new episode).
Following Kimmel, a new episode of Nightline averaged 572,000 total viewers with 80,000 P18-49 at 12:35 a.m., per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s +1% and +36%, respectively, from the day before; but -18% and -30%, respectively, from the Wednesday prior.
Comedy Central’s The Daily Show, on the other hand, presented a new episode on Wednesday. Hosted by Ronny Chieng, the episode averaged only 259,000 total viewers with 54,000 P18-49 at 11 p.m., per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s -42% and -22%, respectively, from the day before; -45% and -25%, respectively, from the most recent Wednesday episode (July 17). Black Pumas performed on the program.
