With NBC’s late-night programming preempted for the network’s Paris Summer Olympics coverage, CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! ended up splitting first place in the ratings at 11:35 p.m. on Wednesday, August 7.
CBS aired The Late Show‘s June 18, 2024 episode this past Wednesday, and the telecast averaged 1,159,000 total viewers with only 119,000 P18-49, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s -12% and -31%, respectively, from the day before (also a rebroadcast); +9% and -1%, respectively, compared to the previous Wednesday (a rebroadcast on July 31).
At the same time, ABC aired a repeat of Jimmy Kimmel Live!‘s June 27, 2024 episode, and that telecast averaged only 808,000 total viewers with 146,000 P18-49, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s -23% and +1%, respectively, from the day before (also a rebroadcast); -13% and +23%, respectively, from the Wednesday prior (another rebroadcast).
Following The Late Show, CBS aired a repeat of After Midnight‘s June 6, 2024 episode, and that telecast averaged only 380,000 total viewers with 65,000 P18-49, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s -24% and -29%, respectively, from the day before (also a rebroadcast); -15% but +14%, respectively from the previous Wednesday (another rebroadcast).
Following Kimmel, ABC aired a new episode of Nightline, and the 12:35 a.m. program averaged 609,000 total viewers with 96,000 P18-49, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s -10% and -14%, respectively, from the day before; but +6% and +20%, respectively, from the previous Wednesday’s episode.
With Michael Kosta in the host’s chair, The Daily Show‘s Wednesday, August 7 episode averaged 425,000 total viewers with 76,000 P18-49 at 11 p.m., per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s -29% and -44%, respectively, from Tuesday’s episode; but +64% and +41%, respectively, from the previous Wednesday’s episode. Kosta welcomed Michigan Law School professor, former U.S. Attorney and author Barbara McQuade to the program this past Wednesday.
