Late Night Ratings: Wednesday, April 17, 2024

Note: LateNighter generally posts late night daily ratings on a two (business) day delay, which is how they are released by Nielsen.

CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert earned first place in the late night ratings race on Wednesday, April 17, but shed total viewers from the week before.

According to Nielsen live-plus-same-day data for April 17, 2024, The Late Show averaged 1,822,000 total viewers and 205,000 P18-49 viewers. That’s -13% and -13%, respectively, from the day before (Tuesday, April 16), up +5% but -3%, respectively, from the previous Wednesday episode (April 10). John Lithgow, and Doris Kearns Goodwin were Colbert’s Late Show guests on April 17.

ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! took second place at 11:35 p.m. this past Wednesday, both in total viewers (1,448,000) and in P18-49 (199,000). The ABC late-night offering shed -2% in total viewers from the previous night’s episode, and -1% from the previous Wednesday episode. JKL came up just -6,000 P18-49 viewers short to The Late Show on Wednesday, a closer margin than usual. The episode’s 199,000 P18-49 viewer average represents a +5% improvement from the night before and an +18% improvement from the Wednesday before. Kimmel’s guest for Wednesday, April 17 was Rob McElhenney. Chris Stapleton performed.

NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and Late Night with Seth Meyers are both dark this week.

The Tonight Show aired a repeat of its March 4, 2024 episode on Wednesday, which averaged 1,118,000 total viewers and 170,000 P18-49 viewers. That represents an +18% improvement in total viewers, and a +19% improvement in P18-49 viewers from the previous night’s repeat telecast, but a -10% loss in total viewers, and a -12% loss in P18-49 viewers from the previous Wednesday episode (a new one).

Late Night with Seth Meyers also aired a repeat of its March 4, 2024 episode this past Wednesday. The 12:36 a.m. telecast averaged 683,000 total viewers and 100,000 P18-49 viewers. That’s up +14% and +10%, respectively, from the previous night’s repeat, but -9% and -3%, respectively, from the previous Wednesday episode (a new one).

CBS’ After Midnight averaged just 564,000 total viewers and 114,000 P18-49 viewers on Wednesday. That represents an -18% decline in total viewers, and a -7% decline in P18-49 viewers from the previous night’s 12:37 a.m. episode. Compared to the most-recent Wednesday episode, however, After Midnight gained +5% in total viewers and +11% in P18-49 viewers. Patty Guggenheim, Betsy Sodaro, and Utkarsh Ambudkar appeared on Taylor Tomlinson’s After Midnight this past Wednesday, April 17.

ABC News’ half-hour offering Nightline aired an original episode this past Wednesday, which averaged 745,000 total viewers and 99,000 P18-49 viewers at 12:37 a.m. That represents a +3% gain in total viewers and a +14% gain in P18-49 viewers from the day before, +5% gain in total viewers, but a -12% loss in P18-49 viewers from the previous Wednesday.

Nine weeks into the 29th season of Comedy Central’s The Daily Show, correspondent Dulcé Sloan is finally getting a crack at a rotating guest-host gig, leading the Tuesday through Thursday Daily Show broadcasts this week.

The Sloan-led Wednesday, April 17 episode averaged 413,000 total viewers and 98,000 P18-49 viewers at 11 p.m., per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s up +3% in total viewers, and steady in P18-49 viewers from yesterday’s episode, up +2% in total viewers but -20% in P18-49 viewers from TDS’ most-recent Wednesday episode, hosted by correspondent Michael Kosta.

Actor Orlando Bloom was Sloan’s guest on Wednesday’s Daily Show.
