ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! earned a late-night ratings win on Thursday, June 27, with the presidential debate likely providing a ratings halo effect for the late-night talker.
Per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data for Thursday, the Martin Short-led Kimmel averaged 1,670,000 total viewers with 299,000 P18-49. That’s +27% and +65%, respectively, from the previous day’s episode. Compared to the week-ago episode (June 20), Kimmel gained +10% in total viewers, and +111% in P18-49 this past Thursday. Martin Short (aka. alter ego Jiminy Glick) welcomed Melissa McCarthy, and Nick Kroll to the program this past Thursday. The Warning performed.
CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon split second place in the 11:35 p.m. ratings this past Thursday.
CBS presented a rebroadcast of The Late Show’s June 10, 2024 episode on Thursday, and the 11:35 p.m. telecast averaged 1,263,000 total viewers with 203,000 P18-49. That’s -1% and +10%, respectively, from the day before (also a rebroadcast); -26% and +5%, respectively, from the week-ago episode (new).
At the same time, NBC presented a rebroadcast The Tonight Show‘s June 12, 2024 episode. The telecast went on to average 1,164,000 total viewers with 230,000 P18-49 viewers, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s -8% and +31%, respectively, from the previous day’s telecast (a rebroadcast); -4% and -1%, respectively, from the week-ago episode (a new one).
Following Fallon, NBC presented a rebroadcast of Late Night with Seth Meyers‘ June 19, 2024 episode, and per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data, the telecast averaged 724,000 total viewers with 155,000 P18-49. That’s +1% and +18%, respectively, from the previous day’s rebroadcast; -6% and -2%, respectively, from the week-ago episode (new).
Following The Late Show, CBS presented a rebroadcast of After Midnight‘s May 22, 2024 episode. The 12:35 a.m. telecast averaged 572,000 total viewers with 137,000 P18-49 viewers, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s +3% and +61%, respectively, from the previous day’s rebroadcast; +6% and +23%, respectively, from the week-ago episode (new).
Similar to Wednesday, ABC did not submit Nightline viewing data for Thursday to Nielsen.
Lastly, Jon Stewart hosted a live, post-presidential debate Daily Show this past Thursday, and it delivered a substantial non-Monday audience: 685,000 total viewers and 174,000 P18-49 (per live-plus-same-day data). Relative to the day before (hosted by Michael Kosta), that’s up +49% in total viewers and +26% among P18-49. Relative to Stewart’s previous episode (Monday, June 17, 2024), his Thursday June 27 episode was actually -7% in total viewers, but +5% among P18-49.
The June 27 episode’s 174,000 average in P18-49 represents The Daily Show’s largest live-plus-same-day average in the measurement in three-and-a-half months––since March 11 (176,000). Out of the 67 Daily Show episodes that have aired in 2024 to-date, Stewart’s live post-debate show on Thursday was the show’s sixth highest-rated of the year in the P18-49 demo.
