Late Night Ratings: Thursday, July 4, 2024

Note: LateNighter generally posts late night daily ratings on a two (business) day delay, which is how they are released by Nielsen. 

NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon earned first place in the late-night ratings race on a rerun-heavy Independence Day — July 4, 2024.

The Tonight Show‘s June 11, 2024 episode rebroadcast averaged 1,375,000 total viewers with 213,000 P18-49 this past Thursday, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. The Independence Day telecast gained +23% in total viewers, and +33% among P18-49 from the day before (Wednesday, July 3); gained +18% in total viewers but shed -7% among P18-49 relative to the week-ago telecast (also a rebroadcast).

Elsewhere, ABC presented a rebroadcast of the Jimmy Kimmel Live! June 6, 2024 episode this past Thursday. The Independence Day telecast averaged 1,297,000 total viewers with 207,000 P18-49, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s good for second place at 11:35 p.m. in both key measurements. ABC did not submit viewer data for the previous day’s Kimmel rebroadcast. Relative to the week-ago episode (a new one), however, the July 4 telecast is -22% in total viewers and -31% among P18-49.

Also at 11:35 p.m., CBS presented a rebroadcast of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert‘s June 3, 2024 episode. The Independence Day telecast averaged 1,076,000 total viewers with 147,000 P18-49, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s -16% in total viewers, but +7% among P18-49 from the day before; -15% and -28% respectively, from the week-ago telecast (also a rebroadcast).

Following The Tonight Show, NBC presented a rebroadcast of Late Night with Seth Meyers‘ May 16, 2024 episode. The telecast went on to average 657,000 total viewers with 112,000 P18-49, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That represents a -5% decline in total viewers, and an +11% gain in P18-49 viewers from the day before; a loss of -9% and -28%, respectively, from the previous Thursday’s telecast (also a rebroadcast).

Following The Late Show, CBS presented a rebroadcast of After Midnight‘s May 15, 2024 episode. The Independence Day telecast averaged only 495,000 total viewers with 78,000 P18-49 viewers, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That represents an -8% loss in total viewers, but a +3% gain in P18-49 viewers from the previous day; -13% and -43%, respectively, from the prior Thursday telecast (also a rebroadcast).

A special episode of Nightline aired after the Kimmel repeat, and it averaged 711,000 total viewers with 70,000 P18-49 viewers. ABC did not submit Nightline viewer data to Nielsen on Wednesday July 3, or Thursday, June 27.

Comedy Central’s The Daily Show did not air on Thursday, July 4, 2024.
