Late Night Ratings: Friday, June 28, 2024

Note: LateNighter generally posts late night daily ratings on a two (business) day delay, which is how they are released by Nielsen. 

NBC’s top-rated primetime coverage of the first night of competition at the 2024 U.S. Olympic gymnastics trials helped The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and Late Night with Seth Meyers dominate their timeslot competition on Friday, June 28, with each program gaining viewers in the process.

NBC presented a rebroadcast of The Tonight Show‘s May 23, 2024 episode this past Friday, and the 11:35 p.m. telecast averaged 1,528,000 total viewers with a whopping 370,000 P18-49, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s the show’s largest total live-plus-same-day audience for a rebroadcast year to-date, and the show’s largest live-plus-same-day P18-49 audience at 11:35 p.m. in more than a year.

Friday’s Tonight Show telecast gained +31% in total viewers and +61% among P18-49 from the previous day’s telecast, (a rebroadcast) Compared to the week-ago telecast (also a rebroadcast), The Tonight Show saw a +9% improvement in total viewers and +74% improvement among P18-49 viewers.

ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! and CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert presented re-aired their June 24 and May 22 episodes, respectively, this past Friday. The programs split second place in the 11:35 p.m. ratings race, behind The Tonight Show.

This past Friday’s rebroadcast of the May 22 Late Show averaged 1,140,000 total viewers with 163,000 P18-49 viewers, per Nielsen live-plus-same day data. That’s -10% in total viewers and -20% in P18-49 viewers from the day before (also a rebroadcast); -17% in total viewers but +6% in P18-49 from the week-ago telecast (another rebroadcast).

This past Friday’s rebroadcast of the June 24 Kimmel averaged 1,266,000 total viewers with 161,000 P18-49 viewers, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s -24% and -46%, respectively, from the day before ( a new episode); +14% and +5%, respectively, from the week-ago telecast (a rebroadcast).

Hitting fast forward, this past Friday’s rebroadcast of the June 6 Late Night with Seth Meyers averaged a 12:35 a.m. timeslot-high 829,000 total viewers and 185,000 P18-49, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s +15% in total viewers and +19% in P18-49 from the day before (a rebroadcast); +5% in total viewers and +35% in P18-49 viewers from the week-ago telecast (another Late Night rebroadcast).

Friday’s rebroadcast of the April 16 After Midnight averaged only 440,000 total viewers with 98,000 P18-49, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s -23% in total viewers and -28% in P18-49 from the day before (a rebroadcast); -23% in total viewers but unchanged in P18-49 from a week-ago (also a rebroadcast).

The Friday, June 28 Nightline averaged 783,000 total viewers with 106,000 P18-49 viewers, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. ABC News did not submit viewer data for Nightline‘s Thursday, June 27 episode. However, Friday’s episode gained +9% in total viewers and +20% in P18-49 from the week-ago episode.
