Friday, August 9 was another quiet day for late night. NBC’s Paris Summer Olympics coverage preempted the network’s late-night shows for the final time, while ABC and CBS re-aired past episodes of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and After Midnight in their traditional timeslots.
ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live beat its CBS timeslot competition on Friday. The network re-aired Kimmel‘s July 25, 2024 episode at 11:35 p.m., and that telecast averaged 1,066,000 total viewers with 168,000 P18-49, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s up +19% and +46%, respectively, from Thursday’s Kimmel (also a rebroadcast); up +31% and +41%, respectively, from the prior Friday (another rebroadcast).
At the same time, CBS re-aired The Late Show‘s July 16, 2024 episode, and it averaged 1,051,000 total viewers with only 98,000 P18-49, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s up +9% in total viewers but -18% in P18-49 viewers from the day before (also a rebroadcast); -10% and -40%, respectively, from the previous Friday (another rebroadcast).
Following The Late Show, CBS re-aired the June 17, 2024 episode of After Midnight. The 12:35 a.m. telecast averaged 434,000 total viewers with only 57,000 P18-49, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s up +13% in total viewers, but flat in P18-49 relative to the day before (a rebroadcast); -9% and -51%, respectively, from the previous Friday (also a rebroadcast).
Following Kimmel, a new episode of Nightline averaged 657,000 total viewers with 105,000 P18-49 at 12:35 a.m., per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s up +14 in total viewers and a solid +84% in P18-49 viewers from the day before; +27% and +30%, respectively, from the Friday prior.
