Late Night Ratings: Friday, August 16, 2024

Note: LateNighter generally posts late night daily ratings on a two (business) day delay, which is how they are released by Nielsen.

A rerun-filled Friday for late-night produced a split decision in the Nielsen ratings race: The Late Show with Stephen Colbert averaged the most total viewers, while The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon averaged the most P18-49 viewers at 11:35 p.m.

CBS re-aired The Late Show‘s July 25, 2024 episode this past Friday, and the telecast averaged 1,312,000 total viewers with 145,000 P18-49, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That represents a -29% in total viewers, and -28% among P18-49 viewers from the previous day’s first-run episode. The show gained +25% and +48%, respectively, from the previous Friday’s Late Show telecast (which was a rebroadcast).

NBC re-aired The Tonight Show‘s July 24, 2024 episode this past Friday, and the telecast averaged 1,114,000 total viewers with 189,000 P18-49, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s -11% and -4%, respectively, from Thursday’s first-run episode; -55% and -67%, respectively, from the most recent Friday telecast (July 25), which had received a huge bump from an Olympics Opening Ceremony lead-in.

Elsewhere, ABC re-aired Jimmy Kimmel Live! ‘s July 24, 2024 episode (the Hugh Jackman-Ryan Reynolds episode) at 11:35 p.m., and the telecast averaged 1,006,000 total viewers with 153,000 P18-49, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s -15% and -10%, respectively, from the previous day’s first-run episode; -6% and -9%, respectively, from the previous Friday’s Kimmel (a rebroadcast).

Following Fallon, NBC re-aired the July 16, 2024 episode of Late Night with Seth Meyers, and the telecast averaged 651,000 total viewers to go along with 160,000 P18-49, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s -16% and -33%, respectively, from the previous day’s first-run episode; -2% and +37%, respectively, from the most recent Friday telecast (a rebroadcast on July 19). Late Night with Seth Meyers was preempted for Olympics programming the past two weeks, and aired reruns the week before that.

Following Colbert, CBS’ re-aired After Midnight‘s June 20, 2024 episode, and the telecast averaged 636,000 total viewers with 92,000 P18-49, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s +6% but -33%, respectively, from the previous day’s After Midnight (also a rebroadcast); +47% and +61%, respectively, from the previous Friday’s telecast (another rebroadcast).

Following Kimmel, ABC News’ Nightline averaged 727,000 total viewers with 105,000 P18-49 at 12:35 a.m., per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s -1% but +12%, respectively, from Thursday’s episode; +11% and flat, respectively, from the previous Friday’s episode.
