NBC dominated the late-night landscape on Friday, April 12, both in total viewers and P18-49. The Tonight Show and Late Night posted week-to-week gains as well.
The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon was the only 11:35 p.m. late-night offering to air a new episode this past Friday, April 12, and took first place in the timeslot, both in total viewers (1,460,000) and in P18-49 (192,000). That represents a -1% decline in total viewers, and a -15% decline in P18-49 viewers from the day before, but a +13% improvement in total viewers and a +13% improvement in P18-49 viewers from the prior Friday episode.
Fallon’s Tonight Show guests on Friday, April 12 included Jesse Eisenberg, and Susie Essman.
NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers aired a repeat of its March 28, 2024 episode this past Friday at 12:37 a.m., and it averaged a timeslot-high 761,000 total viewers and 131,000 P18-49 viewers. Late Night shed -15% and -8%, respectively, from the day before (a new episode), but +13% and +20%, respectively, from the previous Friday episode, also a repeat.
Hitting rewind to the 11:35 p.m. timeslot, CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert aired a repeat of its March 27, 2024 episode this past Friday. The telecast averaged fewer total viewers than the ABC and NBC competition (1,114,000), but more P18-49 viewers than its ABC competition (161,000). The program gained +2% in total viewers and +42% in P18-49 viewers from the previous day’s episode, also a repeat, but shed -31% in total viewers, and -28% in P18-49 viewers versus the previous Friday Late Show telecast, another repeat.
The Late Show’s March 27, 2024 episode aired beginning at 11:50 p.m. this past Friday due to Masters Tournament coverage.
ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! aired a repeat of its April 3, 2023 episode this past Friday at 11:35 p.m., and it averaged 1,263,000 total viewers and 144,000 P18-49 viewers. JKL saw a -22% decline in total viewers and a -28% decline in P18-49 viewers from the day before, when the show aired a new episode. The program gained +1% in total viewers but dropped -5% in P18-49 viewers from the previous Friday telecast, also a repeat.
Airing right after Kimmel, ABC News’ half-hour offering Nightline averaged 726,000 total viewers and 101,000 P18-49 viewers at 12:37 a.m. That’s -14% in total viewers and -19% in P18-49 viewers from the day before. The program shed -9% in total viewers but gained +5% in P18-49 viewers from the previous Friday episode.
The After Midnight telecast for Friday was a repeat of its Feb. 29, 2024 episode, and the CBS program averaged 597,000 total viewers and 111,000 P18-49 viewers at 12:52 a.m. ET. That represents a +12% improvement in total viewers and a +32% improvement in P18-49 viewers from the day before (also a repeat episode). The Taylor Tomlinson-led program shed -15% in total viewers and -19% in P18-49 viewers relative to the previous Friday’s After Midnight telecast — another repeat.
