Late Night Ratings: Friday, April 5, 2024

Note: LateNighter generally posts late night daily ratings on a two (business) day delay, which is how they are released by Nielsen.

CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert aired a repeat this past Friday, April 5, 2024 at 11:35 p.m., and it took first place in the timeslot, both in total viewers and among Adults 18-49.

Per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data, The Late Show averaged 1,608,000 total viewers and 223,000 P18-49 viewers on Friday. That’s -25% and -2%, respectively, from the previous day’s new episode (Thursday, April 5, 2024); up +33% in total viewers but -34% in P18-49 viewers versus the previous Friday episode (Friday, March 29, 2024), also a repeat, but a telecast which received a substantial boost in the demo from NCAA March Madness coverage viewing.

NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon was the only 11:35 p.m. late-night offering to air a new episode this past Friday, and took second place in the timeslot, both in total viewers (1,290,000) and in P18-49 (170,000). That represents a +2% gain in total viewers, but a -19% loss in P18-49 viewers from the day before, -2% in total viewers and -13% in P18-49 viewers versus the prior Friday episode.

Fallon’s guests on Friday, April 5 included Glen Powell, Christian Slater, and Arlo Parks.

ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! aired a repeat of its April 1, 2024 episode this past Friday, and it averaged 1,251,000 total viewers and 152,000 P18-49 viewers at 11:35 p.m. That represents third place in the 11:35 p.m. timeslot. JKL shed -18% in total viewers and -25% in P18-49 viewers from the day before, when the show aired a new episode. JKL was dark the week prior (the week of March 25, 2024), and aired a repeat of its March 13, 2024 episode on March 29, for which it did not submit to viewer data to Nielsen.

ABC News’ half-hour offering Nightline averaged 794,000 total viewers and 96,000 P18-49 viewers at 12:37 a.m. That’s -4% in total viewers and a whopping -41% in P18-49 viewers from the day before. Similar to Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Nightline did not submit March 29 viewer data to Nielsen.

Moving to the 12:35 a.m. shows, NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers aired a repeat of its March 26, 2024 episode this past Friday, and it averaged 671,000 total viewers and 109,000 P18-49 viewers. That’s -23% and -18%, respectively, from the day before (a new episode), +7% and -25%, respectively, from the previous Friday episode, also a repeat.

CBS’ After Midnight aired a repeat of its March 5, 2024 episode this past Friday, and it averaged 702,000 total viewers and 137,000 P18-49 viewers at 12:37 a.m. That’s -9% in total viewers and -1% in P18-49 viewers from the day before (a new episode), up +10% in total viewers but -38% in P18-49 viewers relative to the Friday, March 29 telecast — a Feb. 13 episode repeat.
