Comedian and Daily Show host/correspondent/writer Josh Johnson will mark a milestone when he sits for his first Late Show interview with Stephen Colbert this Wednesday, April, 14.
Johnson’s only previous Late Show visit was in November 2022, where he performed a stand-up set and was not formally interviewed. Of The Daily Show‘s current rotation of six anchors, he is only the third to book a Late Show interview (following Jon Stewart, of course, but also Desi Lydic).
Anne Hathaway is Wednesday’s only other Late Show guest, ahead of The Devil Wears Prada 2‘s May 1 release.
Johnson previously has visited Jimmy Kimmel Live! (for one of the ABC talker’s September 2025 shows shot in Brooklyn), NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon (most recently in October 2023, but never for an interview), and TBS’ Conan (for a stand-up set back in 2017).
Johnson was a writer for The Tonight Show in 2016, before joining The Daily Show‘s staff the following year.
Johnson certainly has a lot to talk about, given his prolific 2026. Earlier this year, he recorded his first HBO special, Josh Johnson: Symphony, which is awaiting a springtime premiere date. Additionally, he recently was tapped to host the 30th annual Webby Awards, to be held May 11 in New York City.
Best known for his sharp, topical stand-up—much of which he releases weekly online—Johnson is said to be taking a different approach with HBO’s Symphony, performing an all-new hour centered on universal themes like family, religion, and relationships. The special was filmed at the Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles.
Johnson joined the host rotation of Comedy Central’s The Daily Show midway through its 2025 run and immediately connected with viewers—particularly those in the advertiser-coveted 18–49 demo. He went on to host 15 times in 2025, and thus far this year has cycled through the anchor desk twice.
Mr. Colbert knows a good thing when he sees one! Brush up on your Lord of the Rings fun facts! Can’t wait to see you!
