The Daily Show viewers hoping to see Jon Stewart weigh in on Donald Trump’s increasingly confrontational rhetoric toward U.S. allies in Europe will have to wait. With the Comedy Central series dark Monday night in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Josh Johnson will serve as the show’s sole host this week.
It will mark Johnson’s first week in the Daily Show anchor chair this season. The popular comic/veteran Daily Show writer joined the show’s host rotation midway through its 2025 run and immediately connected with viewers—particularly those in the advertiser-coveted 18–49 demo. Johnson went on to host 15 times last year.
Johnson kicks off the show’s three-night week tonight with his guest Artis Stevens, president and CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.
On Wednesday, actor Simu Liu joins the show. Liu, who made his Daily Show debut just two weeks ago—crashing Ronny Chieng’s interview with Lucy Liu—is currently appearing on Broadway in Oh, Mary! and stars in the Peacock series The Copenhagen Test.
Johnson will wrap up the week Thursday with filmmaker Alexandria Stapleton, who will discuss her new Netflix docuseries Sean Combs: The Reckoning.
Jon Stewart is expected to return to the host chair next Monday.
The Daily Show airs weeknights at 11 p.m. ET/PT on Comedy Central and is available to stream the next day on Paramount+.
