Jon Stewart’s post-election installment of The Weekly Show landed among Apple Podcasts’ most-shared episodes of the year, according to new data released by the company.
The episode—titled “Trump Won. What Now?”—dropped less than 72 hours after Donald Trump secured a second term in November 2024 and went on to rank as Apple’s No. 7 most-shared episode over the subsequent 12 months. Stewart welcomed historian Heather Cox Richardson for a conversation about public anxiety surrounding a second Trump administration and the historical durability of American democracy.
Distributed across all major podcast platforms, The Weekly Show has built a sizable digital audience. On YouTube, where the channel has amassed more than 650,000 subscribers, the post-election episode ranks as the show’s fifth most-watched with 1.7 million views. Spotify has logged an additional 300,000-plus streams; Apple does not disclose play counts.
The show’s strong performance on Apple’s podcast platform comes with a bit of irony given Stewart’s rocky history with the tech giant. After returning to television in 2021 to host The Problem With Jon Stewart for Apple TV+, he exited after two seasons, citing Apple’s alleged interference in editorial topics. That show had a companion podcast that served as a model for what would become The Weekly Show.
Stewart launched The Weekly Show in June 2024 as part of his broader comeback at Comedy Central, where he now anchors Monday nights and serves as executive producer of The Daily Show. The podcast is produced by Paramount Audio in partnership with Stewart’s Busboy Productions.
