Jon Stewart is Taking a Week Off from The Daily Show, as Ronny Chieng Steps In as Host

Jon Stewart’s grueling one-day-a-week schedule must be taking its toll, because the part-time host is taking the week off. Ronny Chieng will take the reins of The Daily Show desk tonight through Thursday as this week’s only host.

While a week of new shows usually kicks off with a Stewart-hosted Monday episode, The Daily Show was pre-empted on Monday evening as the staff traveled back from Sunday night’s Emmy Awards, where they took home the trophy for Outstanding Talk Series for the second year in a row.

In the past, live events like the DNC and the presidential debates have necessitated a switch-up of the usual pattern, with Stewart doing his weekly sit-in on a different day. This time around, however, correspondent Chieng will host all three of this week’s new shows.

On Tuesday, Chieng will sit down with the former head of the Pentagon’s Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program, Luis “Lue” Elizondo. Elizondo just released a buzzed-about new tell-all, Imminent: Inside the Pentagon’s Hunt for UFOs.

On Wednesday, Chieng will interview actor Daniel Dae Kim, who is currently starring in the Broadway play Yellow Face, a “farce about the complexities of race.”

Thursday’s guest will be fashion designer Phillip Lim, fresh off of New York Fashion Week.

This will be Chieng’s sixth week hosting or co-hosting The Daily Show, in addition to a one-night stint during the Republican National Convention. The comedian joined the show as a correspondent in 2015; he now holds the position of senior correspondent (and part-time host).

Let’s go! I really hope they ask Elizondo serious questions, and I hope he brings up the UAPDA
