Why Jon Stewart Is ‘Offended’ by His Mention in the Epstein Files

Yep, it’s true. Jon Stewart is in the Epstein files. No joke. And during Monday night’s installment of Comedy Central’s The Daily Show, he detailed—with a wink—why he’s “offended” by Epstein’s mention of him.

Back in November, the United States Congress approved, and President Trump signed, the Epstein Files Transparency Act, which dictated the release of all of the Justice Department’s documents by Dec. 19. After an initial release of thousands of documents, the DOJ was required to explain which documents were withheld and why, within 15 days, creating a new deadline of January 3, 2026.

Another three million pages were released on January 30, but millions more remain confidential. And in the latest batch, Stewart’s name can be found.

“Of course, to get ahead of the story, I am also in the files,” he shared during the opening of Monday’s Daily Show. “We all searched our names, right…? I am in the files, this is actually true.”

Stewart then offered full context for his fleeting inclusion.

“I take you to the scene: It is midnight, Aug. 29, 2015. Jeffrey Epstein lies wide awake, his mind turning with ideas,” Stewart dramatically narrated. “He jots a quick note to a producer named Barry Josephson saying, ‘I suggested to Woody—you all know which Woody, right? It’s the Epstein files, it ain’t Harrelson, or the cowboy from Toy Story—that he do a new stand-up routine for either Apple TV or Amazon.”

“Oh, Jeffrey Epstein always had his finger on the pulse of what America was clamoring for in 2015!” quipped Stewart of the idea for a Woody Allen stand-up special.

“But Barry Josephson, thinking like the out-of-the-box television professional that he was, pitched this idea. Quote, ‘Make a true biographical experience with [Woody’s] stand-up being the capper. Somebody like Jon Stewart could host/narrate the biographical part.'”

The G-rated mention amidst reams of insidious and lascivious behaviors seems plenty harmless, ‘cept for two little words—”somebody like.”

Excuse me…? I am offended. ‘Somebody like Jon Stewart,’ or Jon Stewart?” asked the Daily Show, inflating with exaggerated outrage. “My point is, do I have the offer or is this an audition?”

Stewart is not the only late night entity to be found among the Epstein files. As LateNighter detailed on Monday, numerous Saturday Night Live sketches, as well as some associates of the NBC sketch comedy series, get mentioned.
