John Mulaney Deflects Questions About Everybody’s Live Season 2

John Mulaney can neither confirm nor deny that Everybody’s Live with John Mulaney will return for a second season.

Hopefully it’s just a matter of waiting for Netflix to make an official public announcement, but in new comments recorded days before last week’s season finale of Everybody’s Live, John Mulaney appeared to imply that his show’s future is uncertain.

Appearing on today’s episode of WTF with Marc Maron—which has made headlines for its host’s reveal that the podcast will soon be ending its run after 16 years—Maron asked Mulaney if Netflix had renewed Everybody’s Live for a second season and received a somewhat cagey response.

“Have they said ‘We’re doing more’ yet?” Maron asked him.

“Uh, we— Yes, there was a plan to do more, and we’re figuring it out,” Mulaney answered.

“Are you going to?” Maron pressed.

“I never know what to say to that. I’m just thinking about Wednesday. It’s been very enjoyable… and I have really ‘felt’ the twelve weeks in a row,” Mulaney told him, noting the show is “60 minutes of all us, no commercials.”

Netflix initially ordered Everybody’s Live in March following a successful six-episode run of its earlier iteration, John Mulaney Presents: Everybody’s in LA. At the time, the pickup for the new show was said to be for two 12-episode seasons.

Despite his halting initial response, Mulaney went on to describe the enjoyment he’s derived from doing the show. “I love doing this format,” he told Maron. “It felt like making twelve specials using the talk show format.”

In true Everybody’s Live fashion, Mulaney also expressed pride in doing a show that expressed “no learning” about what works and what doesn’t. “In a way that I’m really proud of, things we learned worked we didn’t do again, in large part,” he said. “Other people are offering that if you want to see that, and that’s great.”

I watched it once and found it very amateurish and not funny.

Then I don’t think you really like or understand experimental comedy. Sure, it’s not always 100% funny but they take big swings which sometimes miss.
