Jimmy Kimmel Marks Guillermo’s 55th Birthday With Childhood Photos

Jimmy Kimmel on Tuesday night did right by his right-hand man.

As Guillermo Rodriguez turned 55, Jimmy Kimmel Live!—as the ABC talker has done for some of the security guard-turned-sidekick’s previous birthdays—clued viewers into the occasion.

“I’m going to tell you something, you’re you’re here on a very special night. A night of celebration not only here, but all around the world,” Kimmel opened his monologue. “Fifty-five years ago today, on January 27th, 1971, Don Julio and the Pillsbury Doughboy welcomed a child together, a baby. And they named him Guillermo.

“And tonight, we wish him a happy birthday,” Kimmel added, sparking much audience applause.

“Did you know you serve a birthday with Mozart?” asked Kimmel, turning to his sidekick; Guillermo shook his head. “And Edward Smith, the captain of the Titanic, He went down with the ship. Would you go down with the ship?”

Guillermo thought for a second, then shrugged, “Maybe, maybe.”

Kimmel shared with viewers several childhood photos of Guillermo, from “before he met tequila.” The trip down memory lane included a Little League snapshot; one of a teenage Guillermo in costume as a woman; and one of his budding mustache circa age 14.

Kimmel then invited the guest of honor to “feel free to barely pay attention for the rest of the show.”

Earlier on Tuesday, Kimmel commemorated the big day by posting to Instagram a photo from Guillermo’s aforementioned salsa brand launch, with the message: “A very happy double cinco to my old pal and new salsa magnate Guillermo—available at Costco in the northeast US and nationwide SOON.” The official show account in turn shared a montage of Guillermo photos, captioned, “Happy 55th Birthday to our beloved Guillermo! We love you so much G!”
