After months of getting his audience in the Halloween spirit, Jimmy Fallon is set to deliver a spooktacular episode of The Tonight Show. Among those who will help him ring in the holiday tonight is Saturday Night Live cast member Sarah Sherman, aka Sarah Squirm.
Sherman’s freak flag has been flying high over four seasons on SNL, with the eccentric comic fearlessly portraying a series of gross and odd characters, including RFK Jr.’s brain worm and a woman covered in singing meatballs.
When she made her Tonight Show debut earlier this year, Fallon told her, “You have an infectious charm to you… Every time I see you, you do something super funny and I can’t wait to watch you in a sketch. I’m a big fan of yours.”
He then went on to illustrate her unique brand of “body horror comedy” by showing the audience a talking zit puppet that she’d tried and failed to work into an SNL sketch. “He traveled all the way from my forehead to be here tonight,” she joked after planting a few kisses on the puppet.
To that end, one can’t help but wonder if she’ll bring along her now-famous severed head prop. Since the last time she visited Fallon and discussed its initial use in the November 2023 sketch “Untold: Battle of the Sexes,” her fake head has been incorporated into two 2024 sketches: “Scooby Doo” (May 18) and “My Best Friend’s House” (October 12).
Sherman will no doubt be asked about this weekend’s SNL episode, which will be her second hosted by John Mulaney. When he last headlined the show, the two appeared in three of the same sketches, including the Please Don’t Destroy short “Good Variant.”
The Tonight Show’s other Halloween night guests are scheduled to include actor Anthony Mackie and magician Shin Lim, who have appeared on the show eight and three times, respectively.
