Heidi Gardner Books First Film Role Since SNL Exit With Scary Movie 6

Heidi Gardner’s post-SNL dance card continues to fill up. The longtime cast member has lined up her first major film role since her unexpected exit from Saturday Night Live this summer, joining Scary Movie 6, a new installment coming from the franchise’s original creators, the Wayans Brothers.

Deadline‘s Matt Grobar was first to report the news.

Gardner joins a cast that also includes fellow SNL alums Cheri Oteri and Chris Elliott. A representative for Gardner told Entertainment Weekly she’s “really excited” to join the project.

Gardner’s casting comes after her surprise August departure from SNL, ahead of the show’s 51st season premiere. Gardner joined the show in 2017 for Season 43 and closed out her run with 159 episodes under her belt. She’s among SNL’s most prolific performers—in fact, her very last sketch as a cast member (“Victorian Ladies Who Lunch”) also happened to be her 600th sketch on the show.

In recent years, she’s branched out beyond the show, with guest appearances on You, Shrinking, and Girls5eva, along with film roles in Hustle with Adam Sandler and the upcoming Will Ferrell starrer Judgment Day. She’s even tried reality TV on for size, serving as a judge on the HBO Max talent competition Second Chance Stage last fall.

As LateNighter has reported, she shot a role in the upcoming indie comedy Transcending in her hometown of Kansas City this summer. She’s also set to make her Broadway debut this winter as part of the all-star cast of Simon Rich’s All Out, the former SNL scribe’s followup to last year’s All In.

Details about Gardner’s role in Scary Movie 6 are being kept under wraps.
