Former After Midnight Staffer Files Suit, Alleges Hostile Work Environment

A former script supervisor for After Midnight with Taylor Tomlinson is suing Paramount Global, alleging she was repeatedly harassed on the job and wrongfully terminated after raising concerns with the show’s HR department.

In a complaint filed Friday in Los Angeles Superior Court, Casey Masamitsu, who worked as a script supervisor for After Midnight during its first season, accused show staffers of creating a hostile work environment, describing multiple instances of alleged verbal, physical, and sexual harassment.

Masamitsu, who is described in the complaint as having been the youngest and only person of color in the show’s control room, says she was repeatedly targeted by multiple members of the show’s staff.

Among those singled out is one staffer whom Masamitsu accuses of “physically confronting” and “tormenting” her by intentionally obstructing her path and exits.

Masamitsu also alleges that one of the show’s stage managers made unwanted sexual advances towards her, and accuses the show’s director of making discriminatory remarks about her and disregarding her requests to stop referring to a downstage area on the show’s set as “Auschwitz,” after she said it made her feel uncomfortable.

In her complaint, Masamitsu says she first reported concerns about her treatment from other employees to the show’s line producer and two executive producers within two weeks of her hiring. She alleges that her contract wasn’t renewed for the show’s second season after she emailed a list of grievances to the show’s HR department in June 2024.

Her complaint accuses Paramount of wrongful termination, retaliation, civil rights violations, intentional infliction of emotional distress and workplace harassment. She seeks unspecified damages, including $35,000 in legal fees to date.

This past March, CBS announced that After Midnight would end its run at the end of its second season. Though the show was said to have been already been renewed for a third season, CBS reversed course after Taylor Tomlinson decided to leave the show to focus on her stand-up career.
