Ego Nwodim is the latest late-night star to enter the podcast space.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Saturday Night Live star is launching a new talk podcast this fall. Produced by Headgum, Thanks Dad will see Nwodim leading in-depth interviews with a different guest every episode, with the conceit being that each of them will be deemed her “Dad for the day.”
“I didn’t have a relationship with my dad,” Nwodim explained to THR, “and it doesn’t bother me the way movies and television want it to bother me, but I’m curious about it.”
“I recognize how much of my experience is a shared one,” Nwodim continued, “so I’d like to bring some awareness to that. But I also just love talking to people.”
Thanks Dad’s scheduled guests so far include a few other SNL cast members, including Kenan Thompson, Tim Meadows, and Mikey Day. Also set to guest are comedians Adam Pally and Paul Scheer.
Despite the lineup of funny people, Nwodim promises the conversations won’t be all jokes, describing her guests so far as “very open and vulnerable and earnest.”
“Another podcast!,” Nwodim wrote as she announced the show on X/Twitter. “But I, like every podcaster, like to think this one is special.”
Nwodim joins an ever-growing list of late-night personalities who are taking on podcast projects. James Corden, Jon Stewart, Seth Meyers, The Lonely Island, and Chris Kattan are just some of the names who have added “podcast host” to their hyphenates. Conan O’Brien and Bill Maher have taken it a step further and launched their own podcast networks.
In addition to Thanks Dad, Nwodim is set to star in the new Peacock comedy Mr. Throwback alongside Pally and basketball star Steph Curry. She’s poised to begin her seventh year on SNL when its 50th season premieres on September 28.
Thanks Dad is set to launch on all podcast platforms on September 9.
