Diego Luna Will Welcome Labor Leader Dolores Huerta to Jimmy Kimmel Live!

Jimmy Kimmel Live! may be without Jimmy Kimmel this summer, but that doesn’t mean the show will be abandoning the urge to speak truth to power.

Kimmel’s guest host Diego Luna is set to welcome labor leader and activist Dolores Huerta to the show next week—reuniting the two over a decade after the biopic Cesar Chavez. Luna directed and produced the 2014 film about Chavez, who co-founded the National Farm Workers Association with Huerta in 1962—a precursor to the still-active United Farm Workers of America.

Huerta, who was portrayed by Rosario Dawson in the film, consulted on the project and later appeared on a panel alongside Luna and the film’s cast at SXSW.

It’s safe to assume that their conversation this week will be less about that project and more about the wider world, amid a controversial wave of immigration crackdowns by the Trump administration.

The 95-year old Huerta, who received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Barack Obama in 2012, has long campaigned for immigrant rights, and opposes President Donald Trump’s immigration policies. Earlier this month, Huerta spoke out against the swath of recent ICE raids in Los Angeles, and protested the arrest of labor leader David Huerta (no relation).

Huerta has a biopic of her own in development with director Gregory Nava attached, Variety reports. She has previously appeared on shows like Kal Penn Approves This Message and Sarah Silverman’s I Love You, America, but this will mark her first time visiting a network late-night show.

Luna’s mini tenure as Jimmy Kimmel Live! host is set to be a period of reunions for the actor. He’s also set to welcome two of his Andor co-stars, Adria Arjona and Alan Tudyk.
