Late-night fans seeking parenting advice: This one’s for you.
Jimmy Kimmel Live! co-head writer and co-executive producer Danny Ricker is set to release a new book for parents whose entire worlds have been taken over by the responsibilities of child-rearing.
Wow, You Look Terrible!: How to Parent Less and Live More promises to give parents “the three things parenting takes from us all: our time, money, and mind.”
The “satirical self-help manifesto” offers comical guidance on how parents can reclaim their lives. Some examples: “Save money on soccer by having your child join a cult” and “Throw your kid’s entire birthday party in 17 minutes flat” are just a few of the humorous tips outlined in the book’s description.
Jimmy Kimmel—a father of four himself—wrote a foreword for the book, which also features illustrations by Jon Kutt.
Ricker has been a regular writer for Jimmy Kimmel Live! since 2011. He’s garnered eight Emmy nominations for writing during that time, including six Outstanding Talk Series nods for JKL. He now leads the show’s writing staff alongside Kimmel’s wife, Molly McNearney. Ricker has also written for Kimmel during each of his four turns as Oscar host and all of his ABC Upfront hosting gigs for advertisers.
Ricker previously drew on his own parenting experience for a guest column in The Hollywood Reporter back in 2021, writing about his then 6-year-old daughter.
