Daily Ratings: Bill Clinton Gives Colbert a Big Boost (Nov. 19, 2024)

A guest appearance from president Bill Clinton provided a ratings lift for CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert this past Tuesday. With Clinton as the featured guest, The Late Show not only delivered day-to-day and week-to-week audience gains, it dominated its late night counterparts more generally, both in total viewers and in viewers 18-49.

The Tuesday, Nov. 19 Late Show averaged 2,179,000 total viewers with 256,000 P18-49 at 11:35 p.m., per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s a gain of +29% in total viewers and +9% among P18-49 from the night before (Monday, Nov. 18); +18% and +24%, respectively, from the most recent Tuesday episode (Nov. 12). Kacey Musgraves was the musical guest on Tuesday’s Late Show.

Elsewhere at 11:35 p.m., ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! took second place in the time slot on Tuesday, both in total viewers and among viewers 18-49. The Nov. 19 episode averaged 1,419,000 total viewers with 183,000 P18-49. That’s down -26% in total viewers and -48% in the key demo from the previous night’s football-boosted episode; -20% and +23%, respectively, from the previous Tuesday episode. Colman Domingo, and Doriane Pin were Kimmel’s guests. Nate Smith performed on the program.

NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon averaged 1,022,000 total viewers with 161,000 P18-49 at 11:35 p.m. on Tuesday. That’s down -19% in total viewers but up +25% in the demo from Monday’s episode; +0.5% and +3%, respectively, from the previous Tuesday. Keke Palmer, William Zabka, and Mickey Drexler were Fallon’s guests on Nov. 19. Rauw Alejandro performed on the program.

Following Fallon, Late Night with Seth Meyers averaged 776,000 total viewers with 129,000 P18-49 at 12:35 a.m. That’s up +6% in total viewers and +55% among P18-49 from the night before; +4% and +2%, respectively, from the previous Tuesday’s show. Ted Danson, Xolo Maridueña, and Sam Morril were Meyers’ guests.

Following Colbert, After Midnight averaged 670,000 total viewers with 144,000 P18-49 on CBS. That’s up +14% in total viewers and +8% in the P18-49 demo versus Monday’s episode; +6% and +35%, respectively, from the previous Tuesday. Lisa Gilroy, Chris Fleming, and Oscar Montoya were Taylor Tomlinson’s guests on the Nov. 19 episode.

Following Kimmel, the Nov. 19 edition of Nightline averaged 766,000 total viewers with 87,000 P18-49 on ABC. That’s down -24% in total viewers and -56% among P18-49 from Monday’s football-boosted episode; -14% and +34%, respectively, from the previous Tuesday’s episode.

Lastly, the Tuesday, Nov. 19 edition of The Daily Show hosted by Desi Lydic averaged only 369,000 total viewers with 85,000 viewers 18-49 on Comedy Central, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s -30% in total viewers and -7% among P18-49 from Monday’s episode (hosted by Jon Stewart), and -11% and -21%, respectively, from the week-ago episode (hosted by Jordan Klepper). Lydic’s guest Tuesday night was investigative journalist Ronan Farrow.
