BTS Brings Tonight Show Crowd to Its Feet in First Late-Night Visit Since 2021

Those on hand for The Tonight Show‘s Wednesday-evening taping knew full well that BTS was in the house.

But when host Jimmy Fallon introduced the global supergroup—for their first late-night TV stop in more than four years—no one was expecting them to materialize at the back of the house, and then snake down the aisle past throngs of instantly standing, literally screaming fans.

In their first U.S. late-night appearance as a full group since completing their mandatory military service for South Korea, BTS members RM, Jin, SUGA, j‑hope, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook visited The Tonight Show on Wednesday for an in-studio interview, follow by the airing of an on-location performance taped earlier in the day.

Said performance, of their new single “SWIM,” was staged within and at the foot of the iconic spiral ramp at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York City.

Thursday’s episode also featured a pretaped bit in which Fallon and the group members surprised fans as they stepped out of a BTS-themed karaoke booth.

A second BTS performance, also pretaped at the Guggenheim, will air on Thursday’s Tonight Show.

BTS’ two-night appearance on the NBC program follows the March 20 release of their fifth studio album, ARIRANG, and the March 21 premiere of their live Netflix performance special, BTS The Comeback Live | ARIRANG.
