Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers are bringing Las Culturistas to Bravo for one big night.
The longtime podcast co-hosts will host and executive produce a Las Culturistas Culture Awards special for the cable network this summer. An offshoot of their popular Las Culturistas podcast, the Las Culturistas Culture Awards recognize “culture’s most iconic and consequential moments of the year” through musical performances, special guests, and over 100 award categories.
While this year will mark the podcast’s fourth annual Culture Awards, it will be the first time the show will be televised.
“The word ‘culture’ is defined as ‘the arts and other manifestations of human intellectual achievement regarded collectively,’” the two co-hosts remarked in a press release. “We are so thrilled to eliminate that whole ‘intellectual’ part entirely with the LCCA’s airing on Bravo and Peacock this August.”
“While what the world needs now might be love sweet love,” they added, “it also needs to see an Oscar winning actress and a Real Housewife come together to present a very heavy award to Oprah, if we can book her.”
Las Culturistas has been one of Yang’s most enduring projects outside of Saturday Night Live. Last year, he told The New Yorker that he had negotiated with SNL to continue the podcast upon his hiring at the show. Yang and Rogers started Las Culturistas in 2016. Yang joined SNL as a writer in 2018, and was elevated to cast member the following year.
Since then, Yang and Rogers have expanded their collaboration, with the duo co-hosting an Olympics podcast for NBC, and Rogers serving as a correspondent for the SNL50 anniversary special’s red carpet coverage.
Lionsgate Alternative Television will produce the special.
The Las Culturistas Culture Awards will be taped in Los Angeles on July 17. She show is set to air on Bravo Tuesday, August 5 at 9 PM ET/PT, and will stream the next day on Peacock.
