John Oliver Makes His General Hospital Debut

John Oliver has officially landed in Port Charles.

Viewers tuning into Thursday’s General Hospital had to wait until the very end of the episode to get their first glimpse of the Last Week Tonight host’s three-episode soap debut—but the payoff was worth it.

Oliver made his entrance in full action-drama mode, emerging from a helicopter to assess the aftermath of a bloody shootout. Leaning over a badly injured Josslyn Jacks, played by Eden McCoy, Oliver’s yet-to-be-named character assured her, “Everything’s gonna be okay. I’m here to help.”

The appearance marks the first of three scheduled General Hospital episodes for Oliver, who announced on Last Week Tonight Sunday that he would be appearing on both the ABC soap and Days of Our Lives this summer.

Oliver’s soap journey began back in March, when he discovered that Stephen A. Smith has been playing Brick on General Hospital since 2016 and responded with what he described as “scorching hot jealousy.” He then made an on-air plea for any soap willing to cast him, asking for a ridiculous character name, something “juicy” involving murder or slapping, and a dramatic close-up.

So far, General Hospital appears to have understood the assignment.

Oliver is set to return to the show July 3 and 6. His Days of Our Lives episodes are scheduled for August 11, 12, and 14 on Peacock.
