Years after recording it, former Daily Show host Trevor Noah is bringing a new comedy special to YouTube.
The platform will debut Trevor Noah: The Lost SA Special in December as part of its just-announced new slate of originals.
As the title suggests, Noah has been sitting on the 90-minute special for a while. The comic, who was born and raised in South Africa, recorded it during his “Live in South Africa” tour in 2023. That location is central to the special, as it consists of “entirely local material,” YouTube revealed.
The streamer adds that The Lost SA Special finds Noah “on the biggest stage of his career, back home,” and “at the height of his global success, reconnecting with his roots and his audience in a way the world has never seen.”
Noah’s special was announced at YouTube’s first Creator Premieres event Thursday. Noah was a rare face from linear television at the showcase, which featured prominent YouTube-first personalities from Dhar Mann to Ms. Rachel. YouTube also announced its biggest push yet into the late-night space with Outside Tonight, a live weekly late-night show “built for the digital age” and hosted by Julian Shapiro-Barnum.
Noah has maintained a prolific output of comedy specials across his career, releasing twelve since 2009. Four of the last five specials have been distributed by Netflix. His last straight-to-YouTube special, There’s A Gupta On My Stoep, came in 2017.
Trevor Noah: The Lost SA Special is slated for a December release on the comedian’s YouTube channel.
