Will Forte’s MacGruber Miata Is Back Up for Auction

The epic journey of MacGruber’s Mazda Miata continues.

Just a couple months ago, Will Forte recounted the wild tale of how he held onto his character’s car from the MacGruber movie (and, briefly, the Peacock series). The short of it: Forte bought the car after the SNL spinoff film wrapped, let it sit, auctioned it off for charity, spent a weekend with the winner, and forced the winner’s son to learn to drive stick shift in the car… in the original MacGruber wardrobe.

Now the car up for sale again.

In a generosity-driven twist to the saga, the car’s previous winner has donated the vehicle back to Forte so that it can  be auctioned off a second time. Proceeds will once again benefit The Pangea Network, a charity that provides educational and financial resources to women and youth in Kenya and the United States. Forte first put the car on the auction block to raise money for the organization last year.

“This was totally unexpected and so generous of the previous winner,” The Pangea Network told LateNighter. “We’re so fortunate to have an amazing network of support, including Will Forte, who is willing to do this all again.”

“Anyone wanna buy a Miata… again?” Forte asks in the new auction listing. He’s offering the same perks for the winner that were up for grabs last year, if the auction price hits these thresholds:

  • $15,000: A page of Forte’s choosing from MacGruber’s “KFBR392” notebook.
  • $30,000: A page of the winner’s choosing from the “KFBR392” notebook.
  • $50,000: Forte will personally deliver the car and take the winner out to dinner.
  • $100,000: A trip to Albuquerque for a MacGruber locations tour guided by Forte, plus a chance to wear the original MacGruber costume and wig.

The actor does note that the car has seen better days. It’s got a couple tears here and there (“most likely from excessive farting,” he says of the interior ones), no stereo, and no “MAC1” license plate. But the car is drivable, the paint job is intact (complete with MacGruber’s notes to Vicki St. Elmo scrawled on it), and it has lived a life more legendary than most movie cars.

Forte originated the MacGruber character on Saturday Night Live in 2006, where its success spawned a film, a streaming series, and even a series of Super Bowl ads featuring the real MacGyver, Richard Dean Anderson, as MacGruber’s father.

Bidding for the MacGruber Miata is open now. It currently sits at a cool $10,000—though last time around, it wound up bringing in over $50,000. As is usually the case for MacGruber, the clock is ticking: The auction closes this Sunday, September 22, at 8 p.m. ET.
