Trump Disavows Role in Colbert Firing, Slams Kimmel and Fallon in New Social Media Post

Donald Trump is denying he was responsible for CBS’ cancellation of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, taking the opportunity to once again slam the host and his 11:35 p.m. time slot competitors.

“Everybody is saying that I was solely responsible for the firing of Stephen Colbert from CBS,” Trump began in a new Truth Social post this evening.

“That is not true!” he continued. “The reason he was fired was a pure lack of TALENT, and the fact that this deficiency was costing CBS $50 Million Dollars a year in losses — And it was only going to get WORSE!”

Trump didn’t stop there, extending his combative words to ABC and NBC’s 11:35 p.m. hosts as well. “Next up will be an even less talented Jimmy Kimmel, and then, a weak, and very insecure, Jimmy Fallon,” Trump alleged. “The only real question is, who will go first?”

“Show Biz and Television is [sic] a very simple business,” added Trump. “If you get Ratings, you can say or do anything. If you don’t, you always become a victim. Colbert became a victim to himself, the other two will follow.”

Shortly after news of Colbert’s cancellation broke, Trump had inferred potential influence over the decision, writing, “It’s really good to see them go, and I hope I played a major part in it!”

Within an hour of Trump’s latest attack, Jimmy Kimmel took to Instagram to make the most of the unexpected attention. “I know you’re busy Sharpie-ing the Epstein files,” the ABC host wrote, “but this seems like a weird way to tell people to watch Matt Damon and Ken Jennings on an all-new Who Wants to Be a Millionaire tomorrow night at 8|7c on @ABC.”

Colbert and Fallon have yet to respond, and with the president’s 5:30 p.m. ET Truth Social post falling right around the time both hosts tape their shows, it’s unclear whether either will be in a position to respond on air before tomorrow.
