Timothée Chalamet is tackling double duty at SNL by quintupling himself with the help of some viral doppelgängers.
The actor has cut a promo for his turn as both host and musical guest of Saturday Night Live this weekend, and he appears to have recruited contestants from a recent Timothée Chalamet Lookalike Competition to help him out.
“It’s a lot of work, and I want to focus on the songs,” Chalamet explains in the promo. “So I brought in some help to cover with all the hosting duties.” The camera then zooms out to reveal four Chalamet lookalikes.
The promo goes on to show Chalamet outsourcing his doubles to do things like meet with a writer (who drops a barely audible “Domingo” mention), listen to Mikey Day talk about Is It Cake?, and even appear on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. (Fallon himself makes a cameo in the promo.)
In October, the real Chalamet crashed a fan-organized Timothée Chalamet Lookalike Competition in NYC. The surprise appearance went viral, in part because it caused such an intense mob of fans that the event had to be shut down by police.
Fans showed up dressed in their Chalamet best, from interpretations of the actor’s real-life persona to full costumes of roles he has played like Willy Wonka to Bob Dylan.
The contest’s viral success sparked a trend of copycat events for other actors across the city.
The win at the Chalamet contest ultimately went to Miles Mitchell, who met Chalamet months later at a screening of A Complete Unknown, got to attend the Golden Globes, and is apparently appearing in a Super Bowl ad.
Mitchell and three others now play Chalamet’s lookalikes in the SNL promo released today.
As winner of the Timothée Chalamet Lookalike Competition, Mitchell won $50—and now, a small spot in SNL history.
