Tim Walz to Sit Down With Jon Stewart on The Daily Show

A federal holiday may have caused Jon Stewart to miss out on his usual Monday night gig sitting behind the desk on The Daily Show. But the extended vacation may have turned out to be a good thing, as it gives the host more time to prep for his upcoming interview with Tim Walz.

Comedy Central just announced the latest coup for its Emmy-winning late-night show: a sit-down with the Democratic nominee for vice president on Monday, October 21.

“This will be the [Minnesota] governor’s first appearance on the show and comes at a crucial point in the presidential campaign as early voting is underway in key states,” the network noted in a press release.

While it may be Walz’s first appearance on The Daily Show, it’s not his first late-night go-around. That came more than a week ago, when Walz made his late-night debut on Jimmy Kimmel Live!

While expressing his confidence that he and Kamala Harris will be victorious on Election Day, Walz told Kimmel: “I can’t wait to wake up November 6th with Madam President,” prompting Kimmel to respond: “I just want to be clear: You won’t be waking up together. Unless you guys have gotten closer than we thought.”

Walz’s Daily Show appearance is part of the larger Harris-Walz media blitz that is currently happening. Just hours before he chats with Stewart, Variety reports that Walz will also pay a visit to The View.

Harris herself appeared on The View on October 8, in what was both her first live interview and first talk show guest appearance since accepting the Democratic nomination for president. And it paid off: Harris’ episode brought The View its biggest audience since 2021.

For his part, in addition to guesting on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Walz has sat down for interviews with 60 Minutes, Good Morning America, Fox News Sunday (twice!), and the SmartLess podcast.

Whether this will be his final late-night appearance ahead of the election remains to be seen. But given how accessible the running mates have made themselves as of late, don’t be surprised to see him pop up again elsewhere before November 5.
